Would you like to transfer a domain to our services? (transfer IN)
1) Here's how to initiate your inbound transfer to SafeBrands (without pre-installing a DNS zone):
- Navigate to Transfer Option: Under the "Domains" tab, select “Transfer” (Domains > Transfer)
- Type in the Domain Name(s) you're looking to transfer.
- For the domain you entered, click on the “Requires Authcode” column marked in red.
- Provide the necessary Authcode for the domain. If required.
- After entering the Authcode, select and highlight the domain, and then click “Add to Cart”.
- Domains needing more information will be shown in red and those ready for transfer will be marked in green.
- Select/Highlight the domain(s) you wish to transfer and press “Submit Order”.
Important: In order to avoid any interruption of service during the transfer phase of your domain name to SafeBrands, we invite you to pre-install the zone file associated with your domain name, prior to the transfer.
2) Here's how to initiate your inbound transfer to SafeBrands (with DNS zone pre-installation):
-
Navigate to the "Domains" tab in the menu, and select “Externals”: Domains > Externals
-
Type in the Domain Name(s) you're looking to create as externals and then transfer, and click "Create Externals".
- Your domain portfolio will then be displayed with a confirmation notification in green "An external domain has been created." which will confirm the addition of your external(s) domain(s), and you will be able to find it at the very top of your list of domains.
-
Click on the burger menu (3 horizontal bars) corresponding to the domain (or right-click on the domain), and click on "DNS".
-
Choose your set of NS servers and click on "Create Zone".
- The domain's DNS zone is then created with an SOA entry and the NS entries corresponding to the selected set of NS servers.
-
You can now edit your zone file and start creating your records to pre-install your DNS zone before transferring your domain. Remove any DNSSEC keys that may be present on the domain's DNS zone; and if so, ask your current provider to disable DNSSEC before the transfer, and wait at least 24 hours before initiating the transfer.
-
Zone Publishing: Once your zone is completed and ready, publish it by clicking on the "Publish" button in order to activate it on our NS and make it responds on the DNS to resolution queries. Be careful, at this point, the domain is not yet publicly on our NS, it is a local and internal activation in our system, not public. It will be active as soon as you have changed the NS at the current registrar, or as soon as the transfer is finalized and effective.
-
Change of DNS servers with the current provider: Then go to the admin panel of your current provider who manages the domain to be transferred, and change the DNS servers to replace them with ours on which you have pre-installed your zone. This will then publicly activate the pre-installed DNS zone on our platform, if the modification of the DNS servers is validated by your current provider. Our DNS will then take over the technical management for your domain, providing responses to the DNS queries received. At this point, you should wait about 24 hours for the propagation to be done anywhere in the world, and then you can move on to the next step.
- Finally, start the transfer process described above and finalize.
Exceptions: Please note that there are many exceptions and constraints to follow and take into account depending on the extension (TLD) concerned (.com, .fr, .org, etc.) and the rules of the registries, which you can find on our Knowledge Base.
For example, to transfer a .FR and so that it does not fail, it is absolutely necessary NOT to fill in the holder contact and the billing contact. The .FR domain is transferred with the current registrant and a change of registrant (for a fee) must be made after the transfer, if applicable; As for the billing contact, it must be identical to the administrative contact.
Points of vigilance and elements to check before and after the transfer:
- Active Transfer Monitoring (Contacts and NS Servers):
It is essential to follow up the transfer to ensure that the transfer is completed successfully, and in particular to confirm the installation (contacts and NS servers specifically) to avoid any interruption of services. If necessary, update contacts and/or NS servers.
- Current Provider Practices:
Some providers disable the DNS service immediately after the transfer. It is therefore recommended to contact them to find out their policy and, if necessary, to modify the DNS servers by ours before initiating the transfer to our services.
- DNSSEC:
Remove any DNSSEC keys that may be present on the domain's DNS zone; and if so, ask your current provider to disable DNSSEC before the transfer, and wait at least 24 hours before initiating the transfer.
